Not all the music that is currently being released is great. A majority of it with its aggressive, staccato synth stabs, uninspired 128 BPM tempo and lack of “song” comes off like so much repetitive clap-track on a fast road to nowhere.
What’s a DJ with high standards to do? The answer is “dig in the crates!!!”
I've been exploring my prized music collection for a few recent gigs and have cherry-picked a rare selection of tunes to craft a modern-yet-retro hommage to the incredible 80’s. It is so much fun to see people react to rarely played classics and sing along with their favorites that have been sonically updated. Add in some current songs that have an unmistakable 80’s alternative vibe to them and violà! It has become a great set to spin live, and, a hell of a lot of fun to experience.
